Fishing Jordanelle with Shifty 9.1.16

5 am Thursday morning I met Shifty at his place. Today Shifty was wanting Trout and with the success of last Saturday on his mind we went to Jordanelle. Stopped in Heber to get breakfast and couple last things. We made it to the reservoir by 5:45 and was on the water by 6, I got lost trying to find the small craft launch which puts you closer to our lanes. Better we didn't find it as the day went on. We launched and wrapped around the point and dropped our lines. The morning was warm and cloud covered which made for a great sunrise! Even got a good shot of a rainbow, in the sky. The day was scheduled for wind and storms, the wind came but the storms stayed north of us.

We ran the same lane and patterns we did on Saturday, but the results were far different. We didn't catch our first fish until 7 am and by then last week we had boated five. Shifty started us off with a decent sized rainbow trout. I hooked up on the second fish for the morning before Shifty could get his line set from catching the first. I didn't fight it to hard and let it swim across to the other side and when it got to Shifty's line it spun and unhooked itself quickly, losing a nice fish always hurts, but I made sure they all came to my side of the boat after that. We fished the lanes all morning. The fishing was slow and markedly smaller rainbow trout were being caught. We finished with three in the live well. I got into a few catching seven rainbow trout none of them with much size, but they were fish. I tried everything in the arsenal ending up with a triple teaser and a flatfish on each pole. Shifty changed up as well and ended with a dodger and squid.

Late morning the wind came up and the fish turned off, so we left for the protection of the coves. We tried one and the wind was screaming through the inlet and was not working out for us. We went back to the marina bay and started casting lip-less crank baits. I hooked up a quick little smallmouth and Shifty said "wait that's a smallmouth" thinking we were still targeting trout. Made his day to be catching smallmouth bass! We fished in the bay for a couple hours and catching fish frequently. Shifty definitely out fished me in this section, but I did end up with four smallmouth bass.

We had a great day on the lake and made some great memories.
