Where to go!?!?

5.2.14 We did end up at Rockport this morning.  Parker and I started off the day thinking somewhere NEW!  We have not been on Echo and I was thinking Browns!  The reports said they had just dumped 35K rainbows in Echo but my eye was caught by the word Brown.  I wanted to land a big brown, hadn't done that for a couple years.  We went o Echo and low and behold the dock was closed!  Really you couldn't post that on your web site the one I was looking at to see what was going on!?!?  Anyhow 40 minutes later we were on Rockport.  The wind was blowing and it was cold.  Really tired of all the wind at this point.  We fished our normal patterns, but got no hits.

Parker said okay the middle of the lake to the dam and then across the dam. I was changing everything up and we got close the dam and Parker gets a hit! Next 40 minutes were fun we had fish hitting each pole. We were the only boat in the area during this time. By the time we landed number 7 boats were circling like vultures jumping into our lane and surrounding us. All that being said we still were catching and getting hits and those that came in were not. Parker had boated 4 fish and myself 3. Parker said on our last pass at the dam, “well dad you need to catch one we will be tied for total. We started our turn and the pole almost jumped out of the holder. I grabbed it and thought for a minute I snagged. Then it shook its head!

kept reeling and it was diving and pulling hard. I knew it was big, but not as big as it turned out to be.  In true form the diving and head shakes proved to be what I was in search of for the day a “Brown”.  When it finally came into sight Parker and I both let out some shouts!  Last fish of the day Biggest fish of the day!  It was a nice sized Brown and really nice sized for Rockport.  We have never caught a huge fish let alone a Brown in Rockport.  We both shouted and danced around.  All the other boats drew near and then finally pulled right up and started talking.  Yep good day at the Port!!  Windy and cold but came out HOT!  We finished off the morning with a stop at the Polar King, best burgers in the high valley.  Sorry didn’t get a picture of the burgers.

Fish Steeler with Shifty on DC

5.1.14 Took Shifty out this evening for a fish. He kicked my trash!! He caught more fish on a rapala than I have ever seen anyone catch on a rapala. I even changed over and finally got one to bite. It was the biggest of the evening!! But Shifty caught 7 and lost another 3. He threw out a lucky craft and got hit before he was all the way out! Ended the evening with dinner at Maria Sope in Orem. Great authentic mexican food. Good carne asada and real good fish tacos!! Fish Steeler ran great, stupid radio still is not working well, but catching fish tonight was a blast! Yep great start to a summer season! Happy May Day!!

Yuba! Pike Hunting

Went Pike hunting today with Parker. We fished most of the day doing everything that people said to do online and reading about how to catch one of them. We finally started trolling and caught one. We started seeing them and recognizing them. We located a number of them by the early afternoon. We could only muster one however. It was 25.5 inches long a common size as the reports say. It was fun bringing it in. We fished another hour and couldn't get them to bite. The Daredevil did it's magic though for the one.

UL I, cold morning, good day

Conference morning on UL going after Cats. To early and too cold for them to come out and play. Lots of folks on the Marina going after walleyes but no one really getting anything. Too cold after the cold front came through. We went out to Bird Island and got one hit but that was it. Great morning on the lake with Jim and Parker. The Fish Steeler ran great and the radio was working things are coming together. Took out the bench seat last week and opened up some storage area and cleared the floor mounted a rod rack and berkley tool pod. Yep good day.

DC sunrise fishing

DC Sunrise on a cold March morning started out at 31*, we had warmer mornings ice fishing....LOL. Parker and I had a great morning on DC. It was beautiful glass conditions with great reflections. The fishing was good as well. We caught 15 and put 8 decent bows in the live well. We missed probably half a dozen or more. We had numerous double ups. Parker was busy all morning, at times he had both poles in his hands. We trolled the "Sea of Galilee" for the morning. The Fish Steeler is becoming our boat but still some things to work out. We are enjoying the ability to move across the lake quickly and the trolling motor is running good. Stringer pics were the fun of the day or as Parker stated "wedding photos" LOL! Great morning and just the start to a great soft water season.
