Scofield on Ice, The Sequel

Its been a while since Parker and Jimmy have been able to get out together with me. It was incredibly fun!  Parker got a new toy for the ice season and it makes us more mobile and it worked great. After we hooked up the trailer and loaded the gear, we hit the road from Parker's house at 5 am Saturday morning and headed for the lake.

Driving down Spanish Fork Canyon we came to the crossroads and had to make a decision, turn right and go south to Mammoth or continue toward Scofield. After a short deliberation we decided we needed to test the snowmobile on safe and easy accessible waters and continued toward Scofield.

We arrived at the lake in the dark, putting on our headlamps we loaded the gear and made ready to get on the ice. Parker was giddy with anticipation to hear the snowmobile fire up. He unloaded and started the preparation to get it going. He pulled it once, twice and the third time it fired up. He pulled it over to put the sled on it and it died. No worries it was still warming up...He pulled on it quite a few times and got nothing. He checked the gas switch and turned it the other way and second pull it fired right up again, this time it didn't die. We loaded it and the springs were crushed under the weight of Parker and I on the sled, it had a cross on the dual rider, which we were doing. It still ran and pulled us out to a spot that we had luck at before. I unloaded and started to prep the area for camp, while Parker went back after Jimmy. They pulled up as I had two holes cut and flasher running. We were out in 30 feet of water wanted to be shallower so we moved in and cut holes finding the right depth we set camp and the tent went up. Jimmy is cold in 80 degree weather so the tent is set up always with him on the ice. We fished for about 20 minutes and seen nothing on the flasher. Parker broke first and made his way back to the ramp and shallows there, I moved back out to the other holes in deeper water. A half hour later and the sun finally rising we determined that this was not the spot. Fun thing about the snowmobile is that you are mobile!! We moved to the other side of the lake while Jimmy held down the fort in the tent.

We cut holes in a small bay on the roadside. Parker dropped his line, no bait, just jigs and within a couple minutes had the first fish on the deck, a chub, but still a fish. He dropped back down the hole and a couple minutes later he hooked a nice cutthroat trout. This is the place. He took the snowmobile and picked up camp and Jimmy and brought them back. I stayed and cut holes and fished while they were in transit. I had a couple swim by but no takers, but fish were active.

We set camp got the heater going for Jimmy and started fishing. It wasn't long and I caught a cutthroat, the typical cutt for Scofield long and skinny. We all ended up with a limit of cutthroat trout and only two chub. Jimmy got the best of the day, only to watch it unhook and flip right back into the water before we could get a picture of it. We fished the rest of the morning and had a blast!! We were just having fun and the best part was no one moved in on top of us, so we had the bay to ourselves.

Our morning ended with a couple double ups and a lot of laughing and story telling. Jimmy had to be home by 1:00 for his son's basketball game which we made sure he was on time for. Not a bad start to the 2018 season of ice. Only 51 weeks left in the year, get out and play and make memories.

Jimmy didn't make it far from the lake before he was snoring....hahaha
