Looking for Mr. Whiskers!

June 7 Parker and went out to UL and searched for Mr. Whiskers.  We found a few of them and then some.   Started at Mud Lake and ended up at Bird Island. BI is basically covered right now so if you venture out be careful of getting to close. Just sayin'. We found the deep hole and got into some nice blues and channels. Bluebird day and lots of fun. Boat is coming along and becoming a decent fishing boat.  Parker ended up catching the most and the biggest of the day, 5 lber.  I actually did the quintfecta of UL caught all 3 types of cats, mud, channel and blue also put in the cooler a couple white bass and a perch!  Good day for me.  We had a blast caught a lot of sun and fish.  Headed back to the marina after we established weigh points for the hole.

June 1st, Fished with Capt. Monty today all 3 boys were on the boat.  The started with us meeting up with Capt. Monty at the Lucerne Marina Docks on Flaming Gorge.  We were looking to get into some big Mackinaws, but Monty siad we could but wouldn't catch many fish, he talked us into running for Kokanee so we followed his expert advice.  We started off with a couple nice strikes and a couple nice lip rips, Kokanee are very soft jawed and it took us a couple attempts to figure out and listen to Monty on how to reel them in.  I ended up landing the first one of the day.  

Rogan caught the most fish for the day and a nice Rainbow.  Jim caught a couple Kokanee, which was the flavor of the day.  Parker caught the biggest of the day with a 3 lb Kokanee.  First time fishing for Kokanee, it was interesting they have very soft lips and any little tug on the line would rip the hook out of their jaw.  It definitely has to be finessed in.  We lost a number of fish due to not keeping a little pressure on the "tip".  Monty was great he treated us like royalty and made the trip a great day.  He wasn't happy with the numbers but we had an absolute blast!  Monty kept us entertained all day.  

His boat, the "Fish Teaser", is absolutely fabulous!!!  He finished the day off with cleaning our catch for us and bagging the filets.  They will be smoked tomorrow with Pecan chips.  We learned tons about fishing for the Kokanee Salmon.  We met up with Colton Christenson at the cleaning station we fished his lures all day.  Picked up some of his lures at the marina store.

Getting caught up.  Not out today, waiting for my newest Grandson to come home.  But we have been out many times since my last post so I will use this time to catch up.

May 25th, went with Parker and Kelly today had 20+ fish day.  We ended up keeping a limit of 12 with a couple decent bookends.  They were hitting the Green blade pretty deep today.  The small ones were taking the rainbow pop.  The larger ones hit on the JoD's.

On the water by 6am and first fish by Kelly by 6:05am on the blade.  Had a great day and things worked very well on the boat.  Still in need of a good fish finder.  Water temp was 58* a little chilly and it was a full moon.  Definitely hitting in specific areas along the dead sea route.  Nothing huge and no browns in the normal routes.

Deer Creek on fire!

Went out last week with Parker to DC and killed'em!  We were out of the house by 5am and on the water by 5:30.  Hooked up our first of many by 5:45.

 We had to make it fast and furious for we had a dead line that had to be met or suffer long if we missed the time frame of our wives...lol.  The fish were plentiful, not large and mostly planters but a few carryovers that had decent girth.  They started out liking Rainbow pop and then moved onto Jack-o-diamonds and then would only hit a big green flasher with a trailing worm.  All-in-all we ended the day with 20 boated and missed numerous more.  One did swallow the hook and became lunch for the day.

We met up with the Blackwell's and talked for a few minutes, always good to see Steve and his family.  Brent and his crew showed up at around 8:30 and caught a few but didn't really hit the bite to well.  The boat is starting to take shape and become a decent fishing boat.  The trolling motor worked great this trip and kept us right at speed.  Next thing to get on board will be a good fish finder, don't necessarily care for fishing by braille and hoping that you are in the right area.  After the fish, worked on the boat a little and got the GPS mounted for easier viewing and also got the lights to work, need some new bulbs for them.  We had great morning on the pond and "Trout City Pirates" are back in action.  Off the lake by 10:30 and back home in plenty of time for the wives to get where they needed to be on time.

April Fishing

Once again I have been slacking off on updates.  Put the ice equipment away in March and have been out a couple times in April.  First trip was the opening run of the boat after getting it tuned by Doug and having mounted the trolling motor.  We went to Deer Creek and caught a couple bows.  Jim, Parker and myself went out that day.  The boat ran great and trolling motor did perfectly what we wanted it to.
Next I went out on a Thursday evening with Shifty to try our luck with Walleye's at Utah Lake.  We fished a couple hours his son Easton accompanied us on the trip, no fish were caught but it was a nice evening.
Went to Deer Creek this last Thursday evening with Shifty again and got into the Bows and had a blast stayed until night fall all in all we ended up with 21 fish a couple decent sized and lost the lure that was hot as fire to one of the biggest ones.  Had it in hand and was trying to remove the lure, a Dare Devil, and the fish lunged and I lost grip on it caught the line and it snapped and the fish hit the water running, so to say.  Great evening on the lake.
Parker and took the boat out Saturday and went Cattin' on UT lake.  We did end up catching a few Channel cats.  We moved around to different areas but the reeds were most productive again.  We went across the lake to Saratoga and that's where things went bad, broke the trolling motor off of its swing arm.  Need to find parts for it but may not be able to replace it due to it being out of date.  We ended up catching a nice 4 ponder in the reeds before venturing off to other areas.
