Slow Morning on Deer Creek

Was asked to go fishing today by friend and colleague Paul O. and his college friend Gary, how could I refuse. We met up at 5:30 am at Harmon's and picked up some supplies for the day. We were on the water by 6 am and had lines running before 6:30. We start trolling Jack of Diamond's silver, two tone and rainbow blades targeting rainbow and brown trout in the Sea of Galilee, we made a few passes getting hits. The first came on the two tone Jack of Diamonds's with Paul, he got the rainbow trout within site and it long distance released. That was okay we knew we had one they were liking, the fishing reports had said fishing was slow but within 15 minutes we had our first Rainbow on line. Second hit came to me on the rainbow blades and again got the rainbow trout within site and it long distanced released, again okay knowing we had a second color only minutes after the first fish. We ran the lane for most of the morning and caught 6 fish on both the two tone and rainbow blades. Gary still had not gotten a hit and we changed his pop gear multiple times, from Jack of Diamonds nickle to brass cowbells, and then prism and finally to rainbow where he got a small hit running the Dead Sea lane. The morning was not highly productive or fast and furious but we did manage to catch 8 rainbow trout ranging 16 - 20 inches and 1-2 lbs. We made the run through Rainbow Bay around the island into Wallsburg bay and through the dock and down sail beach. We called it a day after no hits for more than a half hour and it was 11:30. Cleaned our catch and headed home having 16 nice fillets for them and my parents. Most the rainbow trout were carry overs from previous years stockings and some looked to be born in the lake. No brown trout for today's trip.
