Rhode Island Part 2

Day 3 we ventured north into Plymouth Mass., to see Plymouth Rock and the Mayflower II. It wasn’t disappointing, we stopped and looked around and took a few pictures of the history and lobsters. Seeing the rock was surreal to think almost 400 years ago this is where the pilgrims finally touched the mainland and to see the replica of the Mayflower that the new world seekers came over in was fascinating.

We did a little shopping here and picked up a few things. After seeing the sites and reading the history of the area we headed south on the backroads. We enjoy the backroads to see the country on main highways and freeways you don’t see the fiber of the country. We followed highway 3A down to the Cape Cod bridges where we picked up 6A and went a little further on it but not seeing much different than the main highway we ventured back to it.

We took 6a to Fort Hill and then on to Salt Pond Visitor Center where we got a more detailed map of the National Beach Park. We talked with the ranger he gave us great directions. We followed them to Coast Guard Beach then down to Nausett Light Beach and got a few pictures of the lighthouse and then over to Three Sisters Lighthouse, not what we were thinking but cool just the same.

We followed the map down to Marconi Station Site where the first transatlantic radio message was sent and received. From here went on down the Cape to Provincetown. By now it was late evening and we were hungry so we stopped and got bite to eat at the Mayflower CafĂ©. The food was good, I finally had a fresh lobster which was delicious. We didn’t quite know where we were however. The LGBT is represented well in Provincetown, so the people watching was great. Being Friday night there were some folks adorned like we have never seen. We walked around for a minute in the town and checked out a few shops, but they were closing since it was late and we needed to get on the road. We did take one more sightseeing tour over to Race Point, but we couldn’t see the lighthouse.

We got on the road and it seemed to take forever to get back to the hotel. Only to find it packed with soccer and hockey teams tonight. Did I mention that the rooms had no insulation in them, off to Walmart to find ear plugs. On top of that there was also a wedding party in our hall, yep next to us. We got to here all the plans and all the pitfalls of the wedding.
