Rhode Island part 3

Day 4 we ventured back into Rhode Island and took the back roads to get there. We went to Horseneck beach, where Sally went “surfing”…lol. We walked along the beach for a bit and found a seashell or two along with a crab pot buoy, did I mention I want one of these for the man cave, but this one was too big to take home, plus it had the captain’s numbers on it so I put on the fence so those in charge could report it.

We got back on the road and made our way to Newport, RI. This is a fascinating and beautiful area. The main attractions are the Mansions and the Cliff Walk. The Cliff Walk is lined with Mansions and Salve Regina University. We parked at the beach just below the entrance of the Cliff Walk and made our way to the trailhead. We started our journey and made it about a mile into the hike and realized that the next stop with any facilities was three miles down the trail. We hiked on and seen some of the bigger homes along the way but really only managed about a third of the hike before turning back.

We did see some of the cliffs which were cool to watch the waves crash into them. We made it back to the car and ventured around town a little bit before finding a YMCA and took a short break there. After that we went back into Mansion alley which is Ochre Point Ave. When we got to The Breakers we found a parking lot across the road and parked, this is a free parking lot for visitors, great to see. We hiked around The Breakers taking in its size and grandeur. We didn’t think we wanted to take the tour so we walked down the Cliff Walk to the point we had made it to and then the rain came in. We turned around and made it back to the car a little wet but not bad.

We drove around and took in the other Mansions in the area, which were plentiful. These monster homes were something else. After seeing the Cliff Walk and mansions of Newport we went to the International Tennis Hall of Fame. They were getting ready to close but gave us a little time to look around the grounds and get a couple pictures.  The ITHF wasn't anything like the Pro-Football Hall of Fame, but still interesting.

After taking in everything we could we made our way over to the wharf and parked for the evening. Asking the parking lot attendant, not free, where the good restaurants were in the vicinity. He gave us a couple options and we went looking. This area of Newport was neat to take in, with its shops and boats to browse through. We found Diego’s one of the restaurants that he had suggested and decided to get dinner which was good timing. We only had to wait 15 minutes but everyone behind us due to reservations were told 1 to 1.5 hour wait time. This place was delicious. I had Korean BBQ pork tacos and Sally had a salad. Plenty of food and great taste. The seating was a little lack luster but the food made up for it. We finished up and made our way back to the car and headed for the hotel. Yep the crowds were still there in full power. We went to the room and quickly learned that our neighbors were happily married, that was a first for us! We put in our earplugs and tried to sleep.
