Utah Lake Catfishing with Family

Saturday morning I met up with Jim and the grandsons at their house and we loaded up his boat and headed for Lindon Marina, a short 5-minute ride from his place. We found the marina loaded and DNR doing their job checking boats for STD's. we quickly launched and got on our way to the first of many stops looking for Catfish and some whitebass. Out of the marina, we moved north towards the inlet of a small creek just north of the marina in hopes we could find some white bass running and get a few for bait.

We fished here till we got all the poles set up. This took a little while to show the boys how to tie knots for the lures and hooks. Teaching the boys is always a challenge and yet very fun to watch them get the hang of things. They got the hang of things and got their lines rigged with the needed gear. We moved to our next stop at the bubble up. At the bubble up we anchored and fished here for a while Jimmy caught a whitebass but the wind had created just enough wake to keep our anchor from locking us down and keeping us close to the bubble up. Drifting away from the bubble up we decided to venture into the willows.

We anchored up in the willows and reeds and fished the rest of the day in this shallow area. We cut up the white bass and started using it for the catfish. We had been using hotdogs and they weren't working. The white bass however made a difference only a few minutes into the area and we had our first hook up with a nice catfish. At first, I thought I was snagged up on the willows but it kept coming out, and then finally it gave a nice head shake and the fight was on. We fished here for a couple hours and got white bass but that was the only catfish we could manage to bring in. We had many hits but could not keep them on the hook. A great day hanging out with the boys.
