A couple weeks ago Jimmy, Parker and I went to our favorite lake in search of Cutthroat trout and Kokanee. Odd combo I know but we made it work just not how we planned. We loaded and up headed south and reached our destination at sunrise. The lake is extremely low at this time of year and the ramp looked a mile long. I backed us down and launched the Fish Steeler for our day on the lake. We were one of a dozen on the lake better than the other lakes for that weekend where they were ant hills.

Fishing "Perch" Creek 4 Species Day!
Shifty and I went out a month ago and fished at Deer Creek. Our plan was to troll for trout in the morning and then go for some smallmouth bass in the afternoon. We were trolling pop gear and worm. We fished the morning away trolling the lanes and banks hoping for some big fat rainbow trout. What we caught were Perch, more than we had caught in years at the reservoir. Yes, we were still trolling for trout. We each got a rainbow trout but we were catching more perch, I got one a Rapala up shallow in the water column.

Trout Fishing with Jack!
We trolled of course with lead line and pop gear and Parker had his down rigger running 40 ft. deep with dodger and squid. We caught Rainbow's on each set up and a few of them on each. We just had a fun morning and made sure Jack had a blast! He reeled in almost every fish caught that morning.

Fishing is an escape from the realities of everyday life and a great way to enjoy family time. Get out and wet a line.

Pineview Muskie?
Couple weeks ago Shifty and I went to Pineview to fish for Muskie. Well it didn't quite turn out that way. When arriving at Pineview we launched the boat and when I returned to the dock the motor wasn't running. I asked what's up? Shifty informed me the impeller stream wasn't flowing and then started the engine and sure enough it wasn't. He quickly turned off the engine, and I said your impeller is gone. He asked a couple more guys at the dock and they told him the same thing. Now what do we do? I said put the trolling motor down and lets fish, Shifty was hesitant not sure if the MinnKota would handle the wind if it came up. Neither of us were willing to go home and I wasn't in the mood for shore fishing. So after deliberation we put the trolling motor down and headed out.

Kenai River Sockeye Fishing
We spent 8 days on the Kenai in mid July. We flew into Anchorage and drove to Soldatna where we stayed with our friends Will and Jane. They have a beautiful home on the Kenai river and the set up every fisher wants in a fishing retreat, but it's their home!!
