DC Morning fall is in the air!

Hit DC this morning. Trolled the cliffs, caught up to a boat that was catching fish and seen they had on gold, so Parker switched over. He had a fish in 2 minutes. We had numbers of hits but couldn't boat them. Soft hits today if the pole wasn't in your hand they had to swallow the hook to get them in. We ended up with 4 in the boat. Great day on the pond!! The wind came up so we called it good.

DC on Fish Steeler

It was an ok morning still slow but we got a few and the sunrise was great.  Seen balloons take flight and gliders out of Heber.  Even got a perch today.  Clouds were hanging low in the upper valley and the water was a little chopped early.  By 9 the crazies hit the docks and the wakes were insane.  We fought through them til noon and called it a day.

Rockport

Went fishing with Jim and Parker Saturday. Got a couple hits but that was it. Finally starting getting hits and the stinking trolling motor battery died. Yep time to go and complain about being given a starting battery rather than a deep cycle trolling battery. Day was good we laughed and told stories but without the control of the troller we were sitting ducks to the wind. So we packed up and went home at 11. Got a late start to boot seen a couple guys come off that were running down riggers and limited out early. They were running Christenson pink and orange squids. Got hits on the Red pop gear and worm, should have actually had 3 fish.

Fish huntin' with Tony

Fished with Tony Barton Thursday morning at DC.  We were on the water by 6 am and draggin' pop gear.  Went to the north end of rainbow bay and started there.  We trolled to the island out across the lake and got 1 hit on rainbow pop.  We went back toward the dock and ran the elk mtn into rainbow bay and across back up to the island and across to white rock and got 1 more hit.  We stopped trolling and fished white rocks for bass and got nothing.  Seen boats parked up on Charlseton bay at the river inlet so we ventured up there actually looking for the submerged trees but they are out of the water by a .25 mile so we pulled into the middle of the group of boats and watched them for a bit to see what they were using since they were catching after figure what they were using Tony put on bait and sunk it and ran kastmasters.  Seeing that the only ones catching things were on the north side of the boats we maneuvered into another position and yet another as boats limited out.  I kept changing lures until I found the color of the day.

My first fish was a good sized rainbow 2-3 lbs and quite fun on the rig I was using that Tony borrowed me since I only brought a trolling pole.  I landed a 2nd one in a couple more cast and Tony was getting interested in what I was doing.  Then I caught my 3rd in couple more cast.  I gave him another kastmaster and he rigged it up.  Still no fish for him I caught my 4th and he asked what I was doing I showed him he caught his first fish in a couple cast.  I caught a nice smallie and then another couple rainbows.

We watched the boat that stayed with us for most of the day pull in fish all day long.  They called themselves the Grumpy old men, 3 old boys that you could tell had been fishing since their youth and maybe even together that long.  One would catch one and the other two would just sit there until the other had the fish at the boat and then help net it sometimes.  We watched them all day and exchanged pleasantries when we would catch one or they would.  After they caught one they clean and filet it and dump the remains back in the lake, LOL that might have been why they were catching so many.  One of them tagged into a fish and fought it for a 20-30 minutes it circled the boat twice and finally got it in it was a 29.5 brown!!  It was huge it filled their net and looked like a rugby ball.  Without their help though I don’t if we would have caught a fish, the one with a blue towel pointed out to us what they were sitting on and what to look for on the finder.  We fished until 3:30 that day shared so many stories and reminisced about high school and sports.  It was great day on the pond!!!  Hadn't had that much fun in a long time.  It was slow fishing but a fast day and hot day.  Yes we marked the spot.

That's the end of our story for today!

New Era!

Misty Mtn Adventures started a new era last night, Parker and I took the "The Fish Steeler" out for it's maiden voyage.  I sold the "Misty Water Pirate" because of engine problems (wouldn't go fast enough) and bought a brand spanking new Starweld aluminum 18' boat, yes it goes fast.  Anyhow we took it out for it's maiden voyage and christened it with it's first fish and my first ever Walleye!  We caught a few more that evening but it wasn't really hot fishing.  Mainly because I wanted to try a couple different locations knowing we could get to the honey hole very quickly.  DC is finicky in giving up it's secrets but I know I can catch fish in our run and we did.  First Walleye was fun to catch just a little guy but still a Walleye.  We trolled the west bank for an hour or so and nothing, went to the "Dead sea and Sea of Galilee" and got into them.  They hit the rainbow pop and Red dodger and green dodger; the JoD's didn't produce anything.

Strawberry

6.15.13  Fished Strawberry with Craig today went to Renegade marina and fished in the Indian Springs bay and channel.  We fished from 7:30 to 3:30.  Best fishing was definitely the morning in the bay they were hitting rainbow pop and worm for us.  Mac was running a Jake's lure and a green tube jig trolling he had one hit on the Jake's.  After I landed my 5th fish he decided to join the dark side and throw out some pop gear.  he had his first hit that took the entire pop gear rig....lol we are saying it was a huge fish.  Re-rigged and kept going and caught a few more before the hit shut off around 10:30-11:00.  There were so many boats in the bay it was crazy!  They were anchored and bait fishing some were doing well others weren't catching anything.  We ended up with around 20 fish, couple of nice Rainbows and a couple that gilled themselves we had to keep ended up in our cooler on ice.  We caught a couple bruiser cutthroats and bunch of medium sized ones but no keepers!  We broke for lunch and went to the narrows, by then the wind had kicked up as it does at Strawberry.  Put the boat sideways and slow drifted the channel with everything we could think of, but got nothing.  We decided we had gotten enough sun by 3:30 and went for home.  On the way out we got stopped by a check station they had 50 Fish and Game cops there checking everyone.  Good to see them actually patrolling somewhat.

Looking for Mr. Whiskers!

June 7 Parker and went out to UL and searched for Mr. Whiskers.  We found a few of them and then some.   Started at Mud Lake and ended up at Bird Island. BI is basically covered right now so if you venture out be careful of getting to close. Just sayin'. We found the deep hole and got into some nice blues and channels. Bluebird day and lots of fun. Boat is coming along and becoming a decent fishing boat.  Parker ended up catching the most and the biggest of the day, 5 lber.  I actually did the quintfecta of UL caught all 3 types of cats, mud, channel and blue also put in the cooler a couple white bass and a perch!  Good day for me.  We had a blast caught a lot of sun and fish.  Headed back to the marina after we established weigh points for the hole.

Flaming Gorge!

Beautiful boat!  Capt.  Monty Thurgood
June 1st, Fished with Capt. Monty today all 3 boys were on the boat.  The started with us meeting up with Capt. Monty at the Lucerne Marina Docks on Flaming Gorge.  We were looking to get into some big Mackinaws, but Monty siad we could but wouldn't catch many fish, he talked us into running for Kokanee so we followed his expert advice.  We started off with a couple nice strikes and a couple nice lip rips, Kokanee are very soft jawed and it took us a couple attempts to figure out and listen to Monty on how to reel them in.  I ended up landing the first one of the day.

Rogan caught the most fish for the day and a nice Rainbow.  Jim caught a couple Kokanee, which was the flavor of the day.  Parker caught the biggest of the day with a 3 lb Kokanee.  First time fishing for Kokanee, it was interesting they have very soft lips and any little tug on the line would rip the hook out of their jaw.  It definitely has to be finessed in.  We lost a number of fish due to not keeping a little pressure on the "tip".  Monty was great he treated us like royalty and made the trip a great day.  He wasn't happy with the numbers but we had an absolute blast!  Monty kept us entertained all day.
His boat, the "Fish Teaser", is absolutely fabulous!!!  He finished the day off with cleaning our catch for us and bagging the filets.  They will be smoked tomorrow with Pecan chips.  We learned tons about fishing for the Kokanee Salmon.  We met up with Colton Christenson at the cleaning station we fished his lures all day.  Picked up some of his lures at the marina store.

Deer Creek with Kelly and Parker

Getting caught up.  Not out today, waiting for my newest Grandson to come home.  But we have been out many times since my last post so I will use this time to catch up.

May 25th, went with Parker and Kelly today had 20+ fish day.  We ended up keeping a limit of 12 with a couple decent bookends.  They were hitting the Green blade pretty deep today.  The small ones were taking the rainbow pop.  The larger ones hit on the JoD's.
Kelly with the first of the day
On the water by 6am and first fish by Kelly by 6:05am on the blade.  Had a great day and things worked very well on the boat.  Still in need of a good fish finder.  Water temp was 58* a little chilly and it was a full moon.  Definitely hitting in specific areas along the dead sea route.  Nothing huge and no browns in the normal routes.
