Fishing with Grandkids

Monday morning, Memorial Day we set our sites on Deer Creek. We had Parker and his son Jackson, Jimmy and his son Harrison on board the Fish Steeler. We got to the dock after waiting for the gate to open at 6 am. Don't know why they have them closed... We readies the boat and got on the water, only to figure out I left the bait at home....DOH! Oh well we had plenty of lures and grubs so we made the best of it. Hmmm worked out great actually.

New Boat Outing with Shifty Outdoors

Shifty of Shifty Outdoors got himself a boat and we took it on its maiden voyage to Jordanelle.  We got on the water by 6:20 am and were fishing by 6:30 am.  The boat is a nice Fisher brand boat 16 ft with a 75hp Merc on it. It is set up nicely with good storage and plenty of room both aft and stern. Has live wells both aft and stern as well.  Shifty matched it with a Minn Kota 55 and co-pilot.

Kokanee Morning, White Bass Afternoon

Kokanee Morning, White Bass Afternoon all in a good day of fishing. Met up With Danny and his son Easton to go fish the Berry for Kokanee. Danny is a great Kokanee fisher and has put in thousands of hours to understand them and know where to catch them. Kokanee are freshwater salmon and are wonderful tasting. We met and headed up the canyon. We arrived shortly after sun up and were on the water by 7 am.

Walleye Fishing with Priority One Fishing @ Deer Creek

Thursday I had the pleasure of hosting Bryan Losee and Ian Munson of Priority One Fishing on the Fish Steeler.  We met up at 5 am and made our way to ramp and was on the water before sunrise and in position as the sun broke the horizon. The day was meant for walleye. Bryan and Ian are two of the most knowledgeable fisherman I know and I was happy to have them on board to learn from them and pick up techniques for walleye.  It turned into a day of great fun and a lot of fish.....just not walleye.

Starvation; Rainbows and Browns

Last Saturday Parker and I headed to Starvation in hopes of finding some big rainbow and brown trout.  The fishing reports stated fishing was slow but we thought we could be the exception.  We got to the lake by 7 am and the sun was well above the horizon in the basin. We launched and headed straight for our favorite run.

We dropped lines and started trolling.  We fished through our favorite lane and got one fish to take out bait. A nice Rainbow trout, she was filled with eggs so we released her. We continued to run the lanes in the area but only got one other hit the rest of the morning.

Casualty of the trip was getting Parker's down rigger ball snagged in the shallow waters by the island. I thought I had steered clear of it, but not far enough and before we could get the boat to stop the cable had ran out and we lost the whole rig!

We continued to fish and missed a number of short strikes. We tried multiple speeds, depths, colors and still only came up with short strikers.  So we marked up the day as a learning trip to keep in the journal.
