Deer Creek - Hat Tricks + One!

Shifty and I haven't been out that much this summer. He is in love with Sand Hollow and during the middle of the summer, it's too hot for me. So when he is home for the week we get out to our favorite lake Deer Creek. Today we launched the Shifty Cruiser in the twilight of the morning. The water was uncommonly smooth and we enjoyed it for most of the day.

We launched and head to the dam and started trolling. Shifty threw out his favorite flicker shad. I put on a husky jerk. It didn't take long for the flicker shad to get a hit and the catching began. Shifty's flicker shad was on fire. He caught most of the fish for the morning. We each ended the morning with three rainbow trout in the live well. On the dam turn around I caught a smallmouth bass trolling, that is the second one we have caught trolling. The first was last season at Rockport. We fished a couple lanes to get our total of six. we finished off in Charleston bay trolling shallow and I got my first perch. After this, we decided to call it for trolling and start to target the banks for bass.

We headed to the rocks and planned on getting into the smallmouth bass. We found the smallmouth bass and caught quite a few of them. However, the day was owned by the largemouth bass and Shifty. He had the lure they wanted. He was throwing a baby bass lure that he bought years ago and only had one. I only had, because at the end of the morning an underwater tree ate it. Before that happened he caught some monster-sized largemouth bass two of which set his PB's for Deer Creek. Needless to say, he was ecstatic and I was happy for him......well mostly...hahaha. We ended the day with 29 fish, we both hit the DC quad. Shifty Caught rainbow, smallmouth, largemouth, and a kicker bonus Walleye. I caught rainbow, smallmouth, largemouth and perch.

We enjoyed our morning on the lake and made some great memories to talk about around the campfire.

  1. Great stuff! It looks like you were catching largies on the north end. Were they pretty deep?

    1. Aaron we were directly across form the island. They weere in less than 10 feet and most right off the bank. Shifty was using a 5-6ft diver and crushing it.
